Conformance Status
Talktiko aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.
Measures We Take
Talktiko takes the following measures to ensure accessibility:
- Include accessibility as a requirement in our design and development process
- Provide ongoing accessibility training for our development team
- Conduct regular accessibility audits of our platform
- Assign clear accessibility goals and responsibilities across our organization
Accessibility Features
Keyboard Navigation
All interactive elements on our platform are accessible via keyboard. Users can navigate through lessons, exercises, and menus using standard keyboard controls including Tab, Enter, Escape, and arrow keys. Skip-to-content links are provided on all pages.
Screen Reader Support
Our platform is designed to work with popular screen readers including NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver. We use semantic HTML, ARIA landmarks, and descriptive labels to ensure content is properly conveyed to assistive technology users.
Visual Design
- Color contrast: Text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratio requirements, with 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text.
- Resizable text: All text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
- Focus indicators: Visible focus indicators are provided for all interactive elements.
- Color independence: Information is not conveyed by color alone; icons, text labels, and patterns supplement color-coded content.
Motion and Animation
Animations and transitions respect the prefers-reduced-motion operating system setting. Users who prefer reduced motion will experience a simplified interface without decorative animations, confetti effects, or automatic transitions.
Internationalization and Right-to-Left Support
Our platform supports 12 languages, including right-to-left scripts for Arabic and Hebrew. All UI elements, navigation, and content layouts adapt correctly to RTL reading order.
Audio Content
Text-to-speech audio used in listening exercises includes visible text transcripts. Audio playback controls allow users to replay, pause, and adjust content at their own pace.
Forms and Inputs
- All form fields have associated labels
- Error messages are descriptive and programmatically associated with the relevant fields
- Required fields are clearly indicated
- Input validation provides clear, actionable feedback
Compatibility
Talktiko is designed to be compatible with:
- Current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge
- Screen readers including NVDA on Windows, VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, and TalkBack on Android
- Operating system accessibility features including high contrast mode, zoom, and reduced motion
- Mobile devices with touch and switch access
Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, some areas are still being improved:
- Pronunciation exercises: Speech input exercises require microphone access and may not be fully accessible to all users. Alternative text-based exercises are available.
- Drag-and-drop exercises: Some matching and reordering exercises use drag-and-drop interactions. Keyboard-accessible alternatives, including tap-to-select, are provided for all drag-and-drop activities.
- Third-party content: Embedded video content from third-party providers may not fully meet our accessibility standards. We are working with our partners to improve this.
- PDF exports: Some exported documents may not be fully accessible. We are working on improving PDF accessibility.
Institutional Compliance
For educational institutions and enterprise customers, Talktiko provides:
- VPAT documentation: A Voluntary Product Accessibility Template based on the WCAG 2.1 standard is available upon request for procurement processes.
- Section 508 compliance: Our platform is designed to meet Section 508 requirements for U.S. federal agencies and institutions receiving federal funding.
- EN 301 549 compliance: We conform to the European accessibility standard for ICT products and services.
- FERPA and COPPA: Our accessibility practices are integrated with our data privacy and protection measures for educational contexts.

- Periodic third-party accessibility audits
- User feedback from our community
Identified issues are prioritized and tracked in our development backlog. Critical accessibility barriers are addressed with the highest priority.
